The term “Hit” refers to any element that is downloaded from web servers and displayed within a page and, therefore, it can also be defined as the basic unit that identifies a single piece of information recorded by a server’s log-files when a user chooses to download a web page.
It should be pointed out, however, that although each text, image, inserted within a page represents a hit, their sum, however, does not allow us to trace the total number of pages requested by the user nor the total number of pages viewed.
The concept of “Hit,” as far as Analytics is concerned, means the interaction that results in data being sent to Analytics itself. Each time, therefore, the user activates the tracking code, Analytics records the activity.
Among the most common and well-known hits we have those of:
- page monitoring;
- events monitoring;
- eCommerce monitoring;
- social interaction.
